Energy
The energy sector is primarily driven by global economic growth, and more specifically growth in developing countries such as China and India, which goes hand-in-hand with a sharp rise in energy consumption.
The sector faces a wide variety of challenges:
- Decisions between different methods of energy production, supply and consumption, while ensuring a substantial increase in current energy efficiency
- Reduction of environmental impacts, with the development of renewable energies, which will have to demonstrate their competitiveness
- Regulatory pressure, driving to open up former monopolies to competition and promoting energy and environmental efficiency (guaranteed prices, subsidies, etc.)
- Financing new required capacities, with greater reliance on private sector funding
Against this backdrop, sector players must:
- Improve their competitiveness in order to lower costs while minimizing their environmental impact across the entire chain
- Develop new offers aimed at reducing the weight of financing of new capacities required on governments
- Anticipate trends and breakthroughs (e.g. new technologies/materials, smart grid, etc.)
